Meet Bethel — educator, poet and musician. Bethel noticed a gap in the city’s art spaces—there weren’t enough accessible, inclusive places for artists to connect, collaborate, and share their work. So, she took action. Bethel founded the Alcove Centre for the Arts, a non-profit dedicated to creating diverse art spaces that foster creativity and community. Think of it as a YMCA for the arts, offering workshops, performances, and community events—all led by local artists on a pay-what-you-can basis led by volunteers.
Alcove’s pop-up events grew into a permanent space in downtown Calgary last summer, but like many non-profits, they’ve faced challenges. Their audio mixer, essential for live events, broke six months ago, and borrowing equipment has been tough. Thanks to the help of Bethel's friend Delilah, we were able to gift them a new audio mixer, ensuring Alcove can keep supporting local talent and community creativity.
