Community Fund: Caitlin H.
Meet Caitlin—mother, sister and 2x cancer survivor. Caitlin was 30 when she first noticed a lump in her breast. A dedicated runner, she didn’t think much of it, believing she was too young for cancer. But after a thorough examination in Germany, she was diagnosed with ER+PR+ breast cancer. The months that followed were a whirlwind of treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, all amid the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The isolation was difficult, as she found herself navigating a foreign medical system without the support of her husband at appointments and facing the isolation of being the youngest in the cancer center.
After finishing treatment, Caitlin and her family returned to Canada, where she had two children: Finn in 2022 and Kaia in 2024. But her health journey didn’t end there. Following Kaia’s birth, Caitlin was diagnosed with high-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma, a rare cancer unrelated to her breast cancer. Juggling motherhood and a second cancer diagnosis has been incredibly challenging, but Caitlin continues to advocate for herself with the support of her doctors, family, and friends.
This year, Caitlin participated in the Run for the Cure to raise awareness and share her story. Her goal was to raise $1,000, but her team raised an incredible $34,948. Through this experience, Caitlin hopes others facing cancer know they’re not alone. Her message is simple: Know your body, advocate for yourself, and lean on the people who care about you.
We were excited to work with her sister to put together a care basket with dining and wellness gift cards—along with a smoothie blender and a new wardrobe of comfy clothes during her chemotherapy sessions.
