Meet Kirsha - While at a routine check up last summer, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - chondrosarcoma. She went into the hospital on July 27, 2022 for a 24 hour surgery with 5 different surgeons operating on her. She has gone through multiple surgeries since then due to complications which extended her initial estimated recovery time from 3 months to 13 months and counting.
In hopes of making others that are going through something similar less lonely, she started documenting her experience on Instagram @my.year.in.hospital where she shares her progress as well as jokes that she cracks with the nurses and doctors. She truly held a positive attitude while going through this difficult time.
Kirsha is now in a rehabilitation centre to help her learn to walk again among other mobility set backs. She requires medical equipment that is not covered by provincial funding or extended health care, to accommodate her needs to get released so she can finally get home to her husband and 2 boys.
Her sister started a GoFundMe page to try to raise $10 000 for medical equipment. We were able to donate $1,000 and a LEZE set for her to come home to because of her friend Sandi that nominated her. Please consider donating to her GoFundMe as they still need a few items to ensure a safe and accessible environment for her return.
